XFX GeForce GTX 280 1GB XXX: Enough to stop the competition?

GeForce 9800 GTX+ To Fight Radeon HD 4850

19 June 2008 - Nvidia has informed their partners of a new GeForce 9800 GTX+ graphics card that will offer better competition against the ATI Radeon HD 4850 graphics card. GeForce 9800 GTX+ will be clocked at 738MHz core and 1836MHz shader compared to 675/1688MHz for the current 9800 GTX card. It will be priced at $229 while the GeForce 9800 GTX price will fall to $199 level. The card will offer support for GeForce PhysX and CUDA-based applications, including Folding@Home and Badaboom video transcoding applications. Expected to launch on June 26th and available in mid July.

Nvidia PhysX Driver Overwrites Vantage Files?

8 July 2008 - CJ let us know that the Nvidia PhysX driver changes some DLL files files within 3DMark Vantage and overwrites them with new versions. These versions cause your PPU to stop working, but will offload work to the GPU if you have a PhysX capable graphics card like GF9/GTX 200. When you install a Radeon you can't get your PPU back to work since NV overwrote the original DLLs.

Radeon HD 4850 Single & Crossfire Quick Test

19 June 2008 - We received a ASUS EAH4850 TOP card which is factory overclocked to 680MHz core and 1050MHz memory and we ran it on a QX9770 3.2GHz and P45 DDR2 system. We got hold of another card from Sapphire so we crossfired it and we got a nice scaling on the GPU score; 6702 to 11159. Seems like HD 4850 is a nice card with good price but runs pretty hot though.
