Introduction

Synology may not be a familiar name for most home users, but the manufacturer has been in the business of network storage since 2000. Today we take a look at the Synology DS207+ which touts itself as a high performance Network Attached Storage (NAS) server packed with great features including advanced data protection for power users.

Unlike the NETGEAR ReadyNAS DUO reviewed earlier, this two-bay NAS server is designed for small and medium size businesses. It can do a lot more than just allow users to store and share files such as music, videos and photos with everyone who are on the network; the DS207+ also offers USB printer sharing, network video recording surveillance, dynamic website hosting, data backup and even Windows Active Directory Services (ADS) authentication. The latter is useful when creating huge number of accounts for domain users. On top of that, it is also Telnet, SSH-ready, and supports NFS, Secure SMTP, FTP with SSL/TLS and HTTPS.
